Straight Outta San Eli

After our travels last year, San Elizario was at the top of the list of places we stayed. San Elizario is a little city outside of El Paso, Texas. It was actually our very first Harvest Host stay last December. We had such a good time with everyone we met, that we promised to stop by again. Fast forward to a year later, we were wrapping up our stay at Big Bend and planning our next stop. The stars aligned, and it was right around the time that San Eli was having their yearly Christmas Parade. So we decided to book our stay with Pistoleros on Harvest Host and let our friends know we were coming.

Michael and I consumed more than our fair share of alcohol in 3-days time, but we had the best time. This year we checked out the San Eli Market and were mesmerized by all of the Spanish cuisine. One night, we had a fire right outside of Pistoleros. We smoked cigars, drank wine out of plastic cups, and broke out the marshmallows for some s’mores. Jesus had never had one before!

Must See Spots

Pistoleros del Adobe Cantina & Grill – The food was great, and the margaritas were even better! The owners, Jason and Isela, are the most gracious hosts.

Shooters Smokin BBQ – Still the best nachos we’ve ever had! We also tried their beef rib special this year.

San Eli Supermercado – There was so much Spanish cuisine! Michael and I were in heaven. We brought home three of the largest doughnuts we’ve ever seen.

Tres Amigos del Robote – Isela and Jason bought another bar in town and gave us a tour of the new space. We also got to learn all about basque pelota since they have a court outside the bar.

Rober Dozal, Artist – A very polite and talented artist whom we visited last year. We have a print of his painting, “Maria in Green”

La Bodega Art Cafe – Erica Murrill is another talented artist in this area. She has a coffee shop filled with her gorgeous paintings.

Tesoros Del Pasado – Last year, Joe Tarango gave us the low-down of all the other artists and patrons in the same building as his Collectibles Store.

San Elizario Genealogy & Historical Society – Last year, we visited the museum and an employee took us on a tour of the old town jail. Fun fact, it was the only jail that Billy the Kid broke into!

Al Borrego, Artist & Historian – The man who’s seen it all. You can get lost in all of the stories he has to tell. Thanks for keeping us company, Al!
