Quick Stop in Benson

We didn’t do a whole lot at quick stop #3 in Benson, Arizona. Typically when we stay at Boondockers Welcome stops, we’re just looking for a nice place to stay for a night as we’re covering ground to a larger location. Leo was a nice and polite host with a fun Camp Flott toilet shrine. 😂 When we arrived, it was pouring down rain, so he let us park on the stone driveway instead of the typical grass pad. We had a good night’s rest and left decently early. There weren’t any amenities, but we would stop again if we needed a place to stay for the night. Plus, it looks like the town has an interesting cavern state park.

About The Town

Founded in 1880, prior to Arizona’s mining boom, Benson developed as a stopping point for the Butterfield Overland Stage mail delivery route. The City of Benson’s culture is ingrained with the Old West and our traditional Railroad heritage.

Amid picturesque river-valley views, agreeable weather, and the Home of Kartchner Caverns State Park, the City of Benson is ideally situated along Interstate 10 as the Gateway to Cochise County. This city is particularly proud of its designation as the Home of Kartchner Caverns State Park. Located on 550 acres at the foothills of the Whetstone Mountains just south of Benson on State Highway 90, Kartchner Caverns State Park offers picnicking, camping, hiking, walking, and the magnificent still-living caverns.
