More Mead Please!

Frascone Winery was one of our favorite stays to date. We showed up a bit later in the day just as it started raining. The owner, Jim Frascone, met us in his golf cart and led us to a concrete pad to park our camper. After setting up in the pouring rain, we hurried over to the winery to grab a quick drink and bite to eat before they closed. Our quick trip turned into three hours of some wonderful conversation and lots of mead sampling. Jim has lived quite a life, and we were enthralled with stories from his past.

Jim was kind enough to give us some paperwork instructions to start making our own mead and gave us one of his last bottles of Dragon’s Breath, a spicy mead. We also tried some homemade alligator rolls! It was a lovely evening and a great way to kick off Michael’s birthday the next day.

About the Winery

Frascone Winery has won a number of awards across the nation. He opened for business in 2003 but was taken out by Hurricane IKE in 2008. After rebuilding, Jim started beekeeping in 2015 to produce his own honey to make honey wine. He met Ron Bentley and Cameron Crane, who then partnered to develop a brand of meads known as Mystik Oak. Mystik Oak has won gold and silver medals at the Texas Mead Cup, the Houston Livestock Show, and Rodeo's International Wine Competitions.
