Christmas in Sun City

After a month on the road, Michael and I decided to swing by Sun City, Arizona, to meet up with family for Christmas. Sun City is located just outside of Phoenix. It’s an age-restricted community (most residents aged 55+) with many shopping outlets, restaurants, and bars to choose from.

My Aunt Cathy and Uncle Dan opened their home to us as we waited for their arrival from Prescott, Arizona. It was so nice to access warm showers, laundry, and an air fryer again! We also had time to address the flooding issue from the shower drain fiasco. Michael was able to get everything patched up.

It was so wonderful to spend this time with family. Especially because we don’t get to see them on a regular basis. My grandma Welly spends most of her days in Arizona with Cathy and Dan. My cousin, Casin, lives in Washington, D.C. My youngest brother, Caleb, has been living out west for a few years. Regardless of the time apart, we picked up right where we left off. Love you all so much!

Having warm weather on Christmas was glorious! Our days consisted of riding bikes, relaxing, drinking bloody Marys, spending time with family, and playing so many games of beer pong. Lothar, a family friend from Germany, even cooked Michael and I a special chicken dinner. After Christmas, we followed Caleb to his new place in Las Vegas!

Shops Visited

The Speakeasy Bar – We visited this bar a few times during our stay, mostly because it was close by and they were open on Christmas Day. I fell in love with the vodka cranberry cocktail.

Sunset Bistro – Michael and I got dinner here one evening. It’s a small bar with a great menu. The bartenders were super friendly as well.

DSW – We severely overestimated how warm the weather would be on this trip. I needed to get a pair of shoes that were warm, cute, and versatile. I got a pair of chunky white boots I’ve worn EVERYWHERE. One of my better clothing purchases.

Tip:

When riding a bike, it’s a good idea to have bike patches on hand. I may or may not have crashed my bike on the way to the bar on Christmas Day… It also helps to have a handy friend who is able to patch said bike tire. (Thanks, Michael!)
